Material Study

The heart of the house will be made up of NZ native timber (stained). This will give the house some cultural significance. I have then decided to use zinc cladding on the exterior of the timber house. This will give it extra protection against the rain. The reason why this is such a good option to run with is that zinc cladding is very environmentally friendly. It is 100% recyclable and has a habit of preventing things like moss or  mold. The rain water will easily drip off the roof and into the pools around the base of the house, and will be very clean. This will mean less cleaning and saves time. These two materials work well together and will give the house a very modern look which is one of the ideas I am trying to produce.

Development to a House

Concept

My concept is to create a new home on the site that will keep the house completely watertight when thinking of climate change. I will look into the dome shaped house and play around with different layouts and plans that are similar to the state house given. In the design I am going to reflect back to the cultural side of Naenae where there are quite a lot Maori/Polynesian people. I want to create the feeling as though it is a 'safe house'. It will be completely protected from the weather/climate change, and they can connect with the house culturally which will make the client feel very comfortable.
